ImaginePlaces, founded by Angela Koch, brings fresh approaches to your planning and co-design processes. The work we get involved with, and importantly how we approach it, builds on 20 years of hands-on expertise, working with diverse stakeholders at the heart of the design, planning and delivery process. Creating interactive spaces for meaningful engagement between design team members, landowners and residents with tangible impacts on design work, planning applications, and the building process, drive her practice.  Angela is interested in urban change at the scale of neighbourhoods, residential and mixed-use streets, design coding, and co-designing for sociable, more productive and decarbonised neighbourhoods.

She chairs the St Albans City and District Council’s Design Review Panel and is a vice-chair of the Swale Panel on behalf of Design South East. She also serves on the Greater Cambridge Design Review Panel as Panel Member.

She has a notable track record in delivering best practices and a contagious drive for innovation.

Her ImaginePlaces co-design methodology is championed by York City Council across all sites of the city’s progressive carbon zero and 100% PassivHaus Housing Delivery Programme and sits at the heart of the Mikhail Riches led co-design process. In 2021, the Programme was internationally recognised by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) as England’s first International Centre of Excellence for High-Performance Buildings. Angela also leads on the engagement work related to the development of a site for about 36 certified Passivhaus homes in Downham for Phoenix Community Housing.

ImaginePlaces’ 3D design workshop approach to planning application & masterplanning processes received national recognition as a finalist in the Royal Town Planning Institute’s Awards for Planning Excellence 2017 |Plan Making Practice.  This hands-on approach to co-design also supported the developer TOWN. on the LoveWolverton town center redesign, a Winner of the National Urban Design Awards 2021.

Her work with Shenley Parish Council on writing the now adopted Neighbourhood Plan and design code for the rural village was a Finalist in the National Urban Design Awards 2021.
